Choosing your puppy is a big decision and not one to be made lightly, be sure that the time is right to bring a new family member into your home, puppies can be hard work and have to be watched carefully as they will probably not be house trained, even if they are they will still have to re-learn in strange surroundings. Remember that the cost of a puppy does not stop once you have made your choice, there are veterinary fees for injections, worming, check up's and flee treatments. Then there are fees for change of ownership with the Kennel Club.

With all of the above in mind and your decision made how do you choose, think carefully about what you are looking for in your puppy is it to be a family pet, a show dog or both.  No breeder can ever guarantee that a puppy is of "Show Quality" at 8-12 weeks old, ok the puppy may well show potential, but they change so much as they grow.  Choose a good stocky, lively, bright eyed little individual, with plenty of character, check the breed standard before you go to visit the breeder, sit down and decide with your family just what you are looking for in your puppy, remember Lancashire Heelers can live to a good age there are many aged 13 and above so the puppy you choose today will be with your family for many happy years.

Always see the Mother of the puppies, although as Lancashire Heelers grow on you so much most breeders have more than one, see them all, and don't be afraid to ask if any are related to the litter of puppies you have gone to look at, they may give you  a basic insight of what the litter will look like when grown.

All I can say to sum up is make your own decision, choose the puppy that you like most, okay it may never be a show champion but then again it might, whatever your puppy grows into I can guarantee that it will be your best friend and close companion for a great many years of love and devotion
